Norfolk Navy Lodge - Thumbs Down!

I just spent a few weeks in the Navy Lodge in Norfolk, Va. I can tell you It was not the best hotel experience I've had. The good points- the lodge is only minutes from the base. This is extremely important when you want to beat long traffic delays trying to get to the base. The rooms are new and nice and large, coming with a large bathroom area, two beds and a kitchen. The best point is the Direct T.V. and the CAT 5 Internet connection. Pretty good compared to the wireless access most places are providing these days. The bad points- the place is filled with traveling military families. This isn't bad; however, the walls and floors seem very thing. You hear the running of little feet day and night in the room above you, the sounds of fighting, football games, etc.. on the weekend. The entire floor smells what the family down the hall is cooking. Again, this isn't bad; however, waking up at 0530 in the morning to the smell of a wonderfully cooked breakfast is cruel unless it's offered to everyone on the floor. Overall, the location will keep this place in business. I've heard that other hotels in the area are not a whole lot better and cost more.
